Description
The solutions architect is responsible for 'owning' the end-to-end deployment architecture for a specific Nokia Service, service line, or group of services. The position will report to the Head of Infrastructure Operational Services.
The Role
This role will primarily work with R&D, Software Architects and Project Managers in a virtual team and focus on designing, building and deploying high availability, robust, resilient and supportable solutions. With a focus on the infrastructure and operational elements of designing and deploying a service, examples could include ensuring services are highly available, have sufficient infrastructure capacity in place and are fully resilient across multiple data centers.
Essential requirements include a proven track record of designing and supporting consumer internet infrastructure technologies, holding a role as a service architect or senior systems engineer. This role will operate within a highly matrix environment which requires strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
A major part of this role will be working very closely with key stakeholders who include Nokia IT and the Technology Strategy Architecture teams, as well as the Service Operations teams, in ensuring the technologies we select match our requirements for scalability, cost efficiency, availability and reliability
Key Responsibilities
· Supporting the Mobile Solutions program and projects delivery from an infrastructure architecture perspective, ensuring new technologies are successfully deployed and meet strict operational acceptance criteria.
· Work closely with R&D, Software Architects and other Solution Architects in designing infrastructure architecture best practice methodologies, ensuring high availability for high volume internet services.
· Work as part of a virtual team of specialists responsible for defining and driving infrastructure technology standards across the Service Platforms team, including hosting, network, storage, virtualization and edge computing amongst others.
· Contribute as part of a "solution architect community", namely a strong virtual team of like minded individuals to help drive a philosophy of continuous service improvement in infrastructure technology design.
· Evaluate the latest technologies, with the goal of ensuring reliability and resilience while rapidly scaling the infrastructure to meet high volume demand.
· Understand business requirements and translate these into innovative technical solutions.
Qualifications
A successful candidate meets the following:
Degree in Computing Science or equivalent
10 - 12 + years experience in relevant software or internet service industry with a service operational background.
5+ years as a Service or Solutions Architect or Senior Systems Engineer
Originates new concepts; recognized technical or creative leader
Experience in mentoring and coaching on infrastructure technologies
Leads teams by example and encourages innovative thinking
Strong analytical and strategic skills
Excellent negotiation and communication skills
Ability to succeed in a highly matrixed, virtual and international culture where change and speed are part of daily work.
Experience in Internet technologies : horizontally scaled systems, high-throughput services
Data Centre & Service Continuity Management.
Operating Systems: Red Hat Linux, CentOS
Application Servers and Open Source Components: Linux, JBoss. Apache Lucene, PHP, Data-Grid Technologies
Storage Engineering: Network storage (NAS, SAN & Virtualized), Luster
Database Admin : Oracle Coherence, MySQL, MSSQL (Other RDBMs technologies)
Deployment Tools: CVS, Subversion, Clearcase and Puppet (at least one tool)
Monitoring Tools: Nagios Professional, Cacti
Application virtualization experience with KVM or similar
Security : Encryption; Network security; Network topology; Cellular Network Connectivity
