Duties & Responsibilities
Pre- and Post- award management of a diverse national and international research portfolio for the Department of Epidemiology. Provides financial leadership, strategic advice and counsel to the departmental leadership team. Performs routine financial planning, forecasting, reporting and tracking for faculty and leadership. Manages and trains financial staff of nine in a team environment, with high standards for excellent customer service. Responsible for developing and maintaining staff competencies and individual growth to enable them to provide comprehensive financial services and assure regulatory compliance. The pre- and post- award research administration (grants and contracts) comprises about 80% of the financial staff effort. Serves as the department representative to wide variety of internal and external partners on all fiscal matters. In close collaboration with Office of Financial Services, will develop and maintain department-wide financial controls to ensure compliance with sponsored regulations and all HSPH financial and business practice policy. Creates and prepares complex financial status reports and projections and performs related audit activities as necessary. Serves on variety of department and school-wide committees related to financial administration, change management and staff development.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance and/or business administration preferred, with 7 or more years of relevant experience. Must have solid understanding of federal research grant and contract financial policies and regulations and budget/accounting principles. Supervisory and strong organizational skills required. Must have superior computer skills, including solid experience with Microsoft Excel and relational databases. CRA and prior experience with Harvard’s financial systems a plus.

Exceptional analytical and organizational skills and the flexibility to handle multiple tasks and deadline pressures. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and management skills, with ability to interact professionally with staff at all levels, and manage highly confidential and sensitive information appropriately. Highly goal oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently as well as in coordination with various teams. Willingness to take on new challenges and openness to change. Prior experience managing 5 or more grant managers preferred. Ability to interpret and abide by numerous policies mandated by the National Institutes of Health, Center for Disease Control, international sponsors, other grant-awarding institutions and regulatory agencies.
