Duties And Responsibilities
Report to and work closely with the Dean for Diversity and Community Partnership (ODCP) and serve as a member of the ODCP senior leadership team. Lead the development and implementation of strategic plans, programs and activities of the recommendations of the HMS Faculty Development and Diversity Task Force and Advisory Committee and additional responsibilities as identified by the Dean for Diversity and Community Partnership. These include, but are not limited to: Develop and manage existing and new faculty and management leadership and development programs, mentoring programs/activities/initiatives, faculty fellowships, recognition awards, and speaker database. Mentor/advise faculty, trainees and students on career and professional development issues by providing impartial and confidential consultation. Lead ODCP-related committees, and attend and actively participate in school/ university/ hospital-wide committees. Work closely with dedicated offices for faculty development at HMS-affiliated institutions. Speak publically as a representative of the Dean for ODCP regarding issues related to faculty career advancement. Write grants, proposals, and fundraising documents for current and new programs and initiatives. Collaborate with the ODCP Research and Evaluation Unit (Converge) to develop metrics and lead comprehensive evaluation of current programs, and use a variety of assessment and information-gathering methods to conduct on-going needs assessment for developing and designing strategic faculty advancement programs.
Basic Qualifications
Doctoral or appropriate terminal degree required, with understanding of and experience with academic medicine and career and leadership development issues. Five plus years of related experience at a senior administrative level in academic and/or clinical setting.
Additional Qualifications
Experience that demonstrates an understanding of academic career issues and working with multiple internal and external constituencies in setting agendas and implementing policies in a large decentralized institution. Outstanding skills in communication, writing, administration and program management. Excellent interpersonal skills including diplomacy, discretion, and tact. History of successful grant writing. Strong negotiation skills and a proven track record in culture change. Ability to multitask, prioritize, solve complex problems and work with grace under the pressure of multiple competing deadlines. Experience establishing metrics and driving accountability are highly desirable. Experience and comfort with public speaking and presentation. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with both faculty members and administrators. Prior supervisory experience. Ability to handle sensitive situations and highly confidential information. Must exhibit sensitivity to cultural differences and have demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse group of people. Willingness to look at issues from various perspectives. It is anticipated that the individual will devote at least 70% (.7 FTE) time to the position of Assistant Dean.
