POSITION SUMMARY
The Director, Market Planning is accountable for gathering, assimilating, analyzing and presenting timely, relevant consumer/competitive intelligence and strategic market assessments to enable informed decisions regarding RIM's strategies and propositions.
In this role, the Director, Market Planning must proactively participate in commercial planning efforts by providing unbiased, objective, in-depth information about current and future markets, product performance, customers, and competitors. Additionally, he or she must identify critical business issues and opportunities for growth, collaborate with the relevant teams, and work to embed an external market point-of view into the strategic direction of the country/ region.
As part of the commercial planning efforts, the Director, Market Planning will provide a 24 month, rolling market forecast for the RIM business.
The incumbent must assimilate and analyze vast quantities of data, to recommend strategic responses to market vulnerabilities and opportunities. Based on research, synthesis and analysis the Market Planning Director must develop and present recommendations for strategic business responses to such matters as changing conditions in the marketplace, trends in consumer preferences, competitor information and risks and opportunities for developing potential new markets, merchandising and product concepts/products.
Successful performance requires broad understanding of the mobile industry, geographical markets, consumer demographics and channels of distribution, and seasoned knowledge of opportunity/ scenario modeling and market research concepts and techniques.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate's responsibilities will include:
Market Insights & Market Trend Analysis
Acquire, maintain and develop insights around:
Market conditions in relevant geographic regions.
Economic and technological trends.
Key customer and competitor activities.
Provide an objective market viewpoint based on an in-depth understanding and analysis of customer and environmental information.
Evaluate the market landscape, monitor changes and predict trends in market dynamics and competition.
Provide recommendations on marketing strategies and tactic effectiveness.
Be the market expert.
Executive Decision Making Support Function
Support in the development of models to determine strategic priorities: projects, strategic initiatives, country prioritisation.
Create, validate and refine market opportunity forecasts/ models.
Collaborate with the country/ region leadership team to identify needs and opportunities for gathering consumer and market intelligence, in line with overall company business strategies.

Qualifications
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in business or related field is required, with an undergraduate degree in science or business preferred.
Extensive experience in the mobile industry.
Experience developing and using Excel-based models and conducting quantitative analysis.
Previous people management experience is preferred.
Proven track record for consistently meeting or exceeding qualitative, as well as any relevant quantitative, targets and goals.
